Held at the House Of Dereon (Beyonce’s mothers joint) with Bun B. as the days moderator made for another reason why the Red Bull brand is constantly winning and why HUEston was “spaced up” one more time. “life is a blast when you know what your doing, better know what your doin’ or your life gets ruined”

To make a long story short and less complicated “I GRANDfathercloc am officially a dumbass.” Yeah for real, see here on The Progress Report we dream about having perfect situations when it comes to getting interviews. I mean you meet an artist manager and ask can you have an interview with the artist and with no sideways looks, a “hold on let me see if’s” or “after the show they should be free,” just a “no problem he’s out in the van, come on.” An almost surreal moment, that also got the last of my Del albums that needed to be signed taken care of and no drunk groupie fans (well actually there was one) to disturb the interview. Lo and behold what happens when the stars align and Mercury is not in retrograde, well I’m not recording for the first half of a thirty minute interview.

After finally being at some sort of peace with this I bring to you the public the interview that almost never was. I do remember what I asked him so let’s catch up. After asking Del about his history with Houston T.X., you would be surprised to know that his father is from here and he used to visit and stay every summer until he was about 7 years old. It was also a surprise to find out that it was not Ice Cube alone who put him on but rather producer Sir Jinx (Ice Cube, Xzibit, Kool G. Rap etc.). In fact Sir Jinx was the direct result behind Del producing music as he learned from Jinx. He also was the one who realized the potential and championed Del for Ice Cube to put his name behind him. Other interesting knowledege such as the question of how much Del wrote for Ice Cube’s debut solo album “AmeriKKKa’s Most Wanted,” were that the “Lynch Mob” wrote the record but thats how they were, everyone contributed to each others releases. Ice Cube actually wrote Del’s “Pissin On Your Steps” and Del wrote also for Yo-Yo. The question of how Hieroglyphics began was pretty obvious as they were all compadres from the same neighborhood. I also asked if his first record (I Wish My Brother George Was Here) and his second record (No Need For Alarm) were drastically different on purpose or accident to which and I quote he said “absolutely on purpose.” The reason being that even though his first record was a success he himself wanted to go in a more street battle rhyme mode in which he was accustom and not stay in the box his first record created for him and this is where I realize I’m not recording…….. So enjoy the rest!!!
