We write because we believe the human spirit cannot be tamed and should not be trained. – Nikki Giovanni
I began my love affair with words at a young age. However, I decided I wanted to write and create for the rest of my life when I read The Selected Poems of Nikki Giovanni during Global Studies class in high school. I studied Literature and Creative Writing at the University of Houston and Educational Administration at Sam Houston State University.
My goal as a writer for Peace Uv Mine is on its surface simplistic: to share my perspective on society, music, literature, and politics. However, you will find that that is an advantageous feat as I believe no perspective is new, only relayed in different ways. Not only a writer, I am also a musician that adores a melody that transcends, an educator of five years in the public school system, and hopefully a voice for disenfranchised people. I sit on the board of directors for the Foundation for Student Leadership and Success. We seek to provide opportunities for minority high school students through leadership summits and scholarships. I am a part of both of these entities because I believe that change starts in the hearts of innovative people. Peace Uv Mine is just that…an innovative force that seeks to change the landscape of urban music and entertainment. I am Cassandra D. Jones. I write, I evoke, I harmonize, I believe…and therefore I change things. Thank you for reading!
